Job Summary

The Team:
The Thompson Rivers District Range Team with the Ministry of Forests is a well-established group of dedicated and diverse professionals, including one Range Officer and four Range Agrologists. This team is deeply committed to protecting and conserving British Columbia's Rangelands through a science-based approach, while fostering strong relationships with various partners, including First Nations communities. The Role:
As a District Range Agrologist whose portfolio will be Grazing Leases, you will play a key part in sustaining the range resources of British Columbia by determining carrying capacities, designing rehabilitation plans, and applying advanced technologies like GIS for data analysis. Your work will directly support the thriving ranching sector within the Thompson Rivers District, managing 125 range tenures. This position offers valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and build lasting professional connections, all while enjoying the great outdoors and making a meaningful impact on the land and communities you serve.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Registered as a Professional Agrologist with the BC Institute of Agrologists, or able to transfer a current membership to the BCIA within six (6) months of employment. Applicants who do not meet the professional requirement may be considered at a lower classification, provided they are currently registered as an Articling Agrologist with the BCIA and can reach full Professional Agrologist status within two (2) years of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Natural Resource Science, Range Management, Plant Ecology, or related field that includes Range Science.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in range management and administration.
  • Experience gathering data using data collection devices and/or mobile GIS Applications (e.g., ArcGIS) to analyze spatial and attribute data in order to make recommendations.
  • Experience with grazing systems and their application to different range ecosystems.
  • Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, partners and/or stakeholders.
  • Experience with contract management (e.g., policies, principles and practices).
  • Experience working with the Land Act, and other legislation relating to integrated management of rangelands and livestock on Crown range.
  • Experience working with Land Act tenures.

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be located in either Clearwater or Kamloops.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
